Plantation Monopoly Game

This is the last piece I am working on for the upcoming exhibition 'Plantation (plan-ta-shun)' at Redux Contemporary Art Center. It opens on March 30 with the opening reception scheduled for Friday, April 6 from 6-8 p.m. There will be an artist talk starting at 7:00. The panel discussion is scheduled for the next day at 3 - 4:30. It will be moderated by art critic and art history professor at SC State University, Frank Martin. The panelists will be Dr. Millicent Brown, history professor at Claflin College, Mark Sloan, Director of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and lastly, Adam Parker, features reporter with the Post and Courier. I will not be seated on the panel, preferring to sit and listen and learn something from the intellectuals.

The Plantation Monopoly game is exactly the same size of a regular Monopoly board and will be set on a table in the center of the gallery. I suspect that people will play the game throughout and even take some of the game pieces as souvenirs so I've made duplicate deed, money, Change and Confederate Chest cards. The only things I haven't completed yet are the game pieces and the slaves and mules that replace the houses and hotels of the original game.

This ought to be fun.
