Here are some images from the recently opened exhibition at Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC. I have some pics from the opening reception as well as the gallery talk and panel discussion (both were standing room only!).

Redux Mural almost done
Still have some finishing touches to put on it but we're getting there. Thanks to all the Redux interns from the College of Charleston who have lent a helping hand and much priase to my adopted sister Dana Campbell for all her hard work! Love ya, my dear!. I seriously doubt that i will have it completely finished before the opening but viewers will get the point. Besides, it's going to be up until September.

Redux Plantation Mural
As part of my upcoming exhibition, Redux asked me to create a mural and paint it on the exterior of the building. It is one of the few public art spaces in Charleston and is changed about three times a year is support of exhibitions. I've been working on this thing for the past three days and will be back out there again tomorrow. We have a scissor lift coming on Monday which will allow me to paint the top of building. I didn't want to do anything crazy since there is little time so I went with the heavy graphics of the Plantation Monopoly game.

Plantation Monopoly Game
This is the last piece I am working on for the upcoming exhibition 'Plantation (plan-ta-shun)' at Redux Contemporary Art Center. It opens on March 30 with the opening reception scheduled for Friday, April 6 from 6-8 p.m. There will be an artist talk starting at 7:00. The panel discussion is scheduled for the next day at 3 - 4:30. It will be moderated by art critic and art history professor at SC State University, Frank Martin. The panelists will be Dr. Millicent Brown, history professor at Claflin College, Mark Sloan, Director of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and lastly, Adam Parker, features reporter with the Post and Courier. I will not be seated on the panel, preferring to sit and listen and learn something from the intellectuals.
The Plantation Monopoly game is exactly the same size of a regular Monopoly board and will be set on a table in the center of the gallery. I suspect that people will play the game throughout and even take some of the game pieces as souvenirs so I've made duplicate deed, money, Change and Confederate Chest cards. The only things I haven't completed yet are the game pieces and the slaves and mules that replace the houses and hotels of the original game.
This ought to be fun.
